Real Wedding: A & J

We can’t rave about DIY weddings enough, they’re our favourite. A chance for the couple to truly express themselves, and live their wildest wedding dreams. Celebrant in bright pink? Sure! Neon DJ booth complete with sax player? Of course…

Fonthill is the most magical spot to plan a personalised special day, with various areas to make your own. A & J chose Bake Barn, a charming restored barn licensed for civil ceremonies both inside and out.

Take a look below through Leah Lombardi’s stunning images.

This Wiltshire Wedding venue boasts being a versatile blank canvas with no neighbours, no curfew and no noise restrictions. With dry-hire flexibility, you can choose your own suppliers and have complete control over your budget.

A & J began their day under a canopy in the stone courtyard, saying their ‘i do’s’ in front of the most well-dressed celebrant we have possibly ever seen. Their floral ceremony display provided a breathtaking backdrop, leading to meadow arrangements that lined the aisle.

Now, it was time for cocktail hour. Guests enjoyed drinks and canapés in the grounds with a canapé selection including buttermilk chicken with blue cheese, salt & pepper squid and pulled brisket tacos. Our canapés are circulated on slates and boards, and our waiting staff have perfected the art of entering the crowd from all angles to ensure not a soul goes hungry! We provide our vegan friends with their own board, to provide peace of mind that no cross-contamination has occured.

The sun didn’t needn’t shine - A & J’s bridesmaids were bright enough to cheer everyone up, with a mismatched look of varying shades of pink. We loved the mixture of patterns, shapes and styles.

We helped move the ceremony chairs into the barn, where A & J’s vision came to life! We loved the contrast between the historic barn and contemporary decor - bright pops of orange and pink through the candles and flowers, with Veo Events neon DJ booth taking centre stage. The disco ball reminded guests of what was to come later, hinting at the party atmosphere.

They chose Knotted Napkin Co’s classic gypsophila napkins, which they draped under the plate to break up the wooden banquet tables. Their stationery was a fun clashing pale pink and orange combination that brought the whole look to life. We commend A & J for choosing our classic crockery options - it can be tempting to choose coloured glassware and textured plates, but we think the simple look made the florals even more vibrant.

We invite our couples into the dining area for a walk-around prior to their sit-down wedding breakfast to ensure we have followed their guide to get the tables exactly how they were hoping. We lay up crockery, cutlery and glassware as standard, but can also put place names and decorations out as per your guidance.

For their wedding breakfast, A & J personalised a menu that ticked all of their culinary boxes! Taking inspiration from some of their favourite restaurants, their wedding meal began with colourful grilled crudités with houmous, burrata, tomatoes, pesto and flat breads. They then tucked into a sharing main course, with hanger steak and chimmichurri for the meat-eaters and gochujan roasted cauliflower for vegetarians. They shared sides of seasoned fries (their favourite!), grilled hispi cabbage, and a tenderstem & black garlic salad.

Ending on a sweet note, we concluded things with the choice of a dark chocolate & sea salt tart with praline cream, or vanilla cheesecake with a red wine compote. Which would you choose?

Oh, boy did the party start once the meal had finished. We set up a Champagne tower with our beautiful vintage flutes, and the bridal sunglasses went on… It was time for dancing.

Veo Events handled everything party, from lighting and DJ to a brilliant saxophonist, A, J and all of their guests really did make the most of their venue of no restrictions! We provided sourdough toasties and ‘all the sauces’ as requested, for a salty and indulgent snack on the dance floor.

It was our pleasure to be involved in this personal, fun-filled special day. We wish A & J all the best for their future together, and think A should totally pick up wedding styling as a new line of work! Want to hear what A & J had to say about Wild Fork?
