5 Wedding Trends for 2024

Now, we’re all for individuality and letting your personality shine through on your special day. That doesn’t mean we don’t love a wedding trend, though. If something’s trending in the wedding world, it’s usually because it works well or looks great! It’s possible to embrace trending ideas and still exude your unique character on your special day.

Sustainable Wedding Ideas

Couples are becoming increasingly aware of the environmental impacts of their wedding. Although usually only lasting a day or weekend, weddings have the capacity to be very environmentally unfriendly with emphasis on single-use items, directions and paper goods. We find our clients are seeking ways to navigate around the need to use such items, for example by thrifting, using natural products or recycled items.

By using online market places and boot sales, couples are sourcing second-hand wedding decor to finish off their look. From vintage bottles and jars to candle holders and table plans, all sorts of wedding props can be found on the second-hand market. This year, one of our brides Jasmine sourced some vintage bottles that had been dug up on a building site near by. Another alternative to buying vessels and jars is to hire them from your florist or planner.

Couples are also looking to follow a sustainable path through their wedding catering, too. We’re pleased to hear clients asking about sustainability, seasonality and locality when choosing their wedding caterer.

Wedding Celebrants

Although the official part of your special day can be overlooked as it is such a formal aspect, people are beginning to break the mould and inject their personality into their ceremony. In the past, wedding ceremonies feel like the ‘serious part’ before the fun begins, but as couples start to realise this part of the day can be completely personalised, we’re seeing a shift in how people choose to organise this part of the day!

We crossed paths with the lovely Roxy at Bake Barn earlier this year. She’s a humanist celebrant who constructs joy-filled ceremonies for her couples. She also rocks the most amazing outfits, which is a bonus for your wedding photos!

Alternative Wedding Entertainment

Couples are on the lookout for alternative ways to entertain their guests during the drinks receptions. This year, we found wedding saxophonists and pianists to be more popular than ever, covering well-known songs in their own special way! Though as we move forward into next year, the focus has shifted to something a little different.

Live event illustrators have ‘boomed’ into the wedding world and we’re expecting to see lots more of them through 2024. These hugely talented artists live-draw or paint your wedding guests and the happy couple during the drinks reception or meal. They create miniature portraits throughout the day for guests to take home, or create one large wedding drawing as the most beautiful keepsake.

Colour Clash Stationery

We’ve seen elegant and simple stationery, floral stationery, stationery adorned with foliage and gold leaf. This year, we’ve seen the rise of the colour-clash stationery. People are having so much fun with their stationery design, and we love it. With influence from the 70s and the restaurant scene, we’re seeing colour pops and colour clashes.

As we move into 2024, we expect to see more of this rainbow of colour, with pink and red reigning supreme! Bistro themes will also be present, with bright cobalt blues, oranges and reds with wiggly lines and fun illustrations.

Wedding Weekends

With all of the build-up, expense and excitement, having just one day for your special day doesn’t quite feel enough! This has been the norm for weddings for a little while, but with more venues offering ‘wedding weekends’ we’re finding we’re asked to cater for multiple day events, and we love it.

As the excitement is bubbling away the night before the wedding, why not celebrate with your friends and family? A low-key wedding BBQ or grazing night is the perfect way to kick off the celebrations early. Then, rather than being sad that your special day has come to an end, celebrate the start of the rest of your lives with a post-wedding brunch! Having a little wedding de-brief with the bridal party is a lovely way to enjoy the morning after.
